Soul Food Sundays: Getting Over

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Soul Food Sunday—my bad, kinfolk. And this clip is way longer than what I usually would post…but I feel inspired to share it. Let this play while you’re cleaning up or eating breakfast or something.  I don’t know who is going through what, but I know we have to get over the water.

And the song I’m dropping today…well, some of y’all know how this song takes people right into the ugly cry, that snot dripping, body shaking, cold chill, can’t catch your breath, lay down on the floor, can’t speak, head shaking, hand-raising ugly cry.  Especially when they say “for every mountain” the first time. Hey, if this isn’t for you, it’s not for you. But for me, this song makes me look back with so much gratitude. I could’ve been dead and gone, y’all. I could’ve been locked up. I could’ve been out of my mind. But I’m still here. I’m still climbing mountains and crossing rivers. And for that I am thankful.

Three things we need to always check at the door, in order: our assumptions, our ego, and our privilege.
